How to convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because the files are smaller, but many websites, programs and older Windows computers can’t open them — so you get an “unsupported format” message when uploading a photo for an application.
Filezain’s HEIC to JPG converts your photos inside the browser, so your personal pictures stay on your device.
When you need it
- Uploading a portrait or document photo to a site that rejects HEIC.
- Opening iPhone photos on a Windows computer.
- Sending photos to someone with an older device.
- Preparing photos before turning them into a PDF.
Steps
- Open HEIC to JPG.
- Choose one or more HEIC or HEIF photos.
- Pick the output: JPG (smaller) or PNG (lossless).
- Press the convert button and download the photos.
Tips
- JPG suits most uses and websites.
- On the iPhone you can avoid the problem in future: Settings → Camera → Formats → “Most Compatible”.
- On an iPhone, Safari saves each photo with a separate tap on its download button.
- After converting, you can combine the photos into one file with Images to PDF.
Common problems and fixes
- Conversion is slow.
- HEIC is heavy to decode; many photos take time on slower devices. Convert them in batches.
- One photo shows an error.
- Some Live Photos or edited photos may not decode. Export it from the Photos app as a normal photo and try again.
- Colours look slightly different.
- HEIC can hold a wider colour range than JPG; the difference is usually small.
- Not all photos downloaded on my iPhone.
- Tap each photo’s download button separately — Safari blocks several downloads at once.
