How to make a ringtone for iPhone and Android from any video or song (no computer)
Want a clip from a song you love, or the sound from a video, as your ringtone? It is easier than you think. In this guide you first make the ringtone in about a minute, then set it on your phone, whether it is an iPhone or an Android.
File Zain’s Ringtone Maker runs right in your browser: nothing to install, and your files are never uploaded to a server.
Step 1: Make the ringtone
- Open the Ringtone Maker on File Zain.
- Choose a video or song from your device (MP4, MOV, MP3, M4A, WAV and more).
- The waveform appears. Drag the two handles to pick the best part — up to 29 seconds.
- Tap Preview to listen, and adjust until it sounds right.
- Download it: M4A for iPhone, MP3 for Android.
Step 2: Set it on an iPhone
iPhone on iOS 26 or later (easiest):
- After downloading, open the Files app and go to Downloads.
- Press and hold the ringtone file, or open it and tap Share.
- Choose “Use as Ringtone”. If you don’t see it, scroll down the share sheet.
- It is added to your ringtones. Change it any time in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.
iPhone on iOS 18 or earlier: use Apple’s free GarageBand app:
- Install GarageBand from the App Store and open it.
- Create a new song and choose Audio Recorder.
- Tap the Tracks view icon at the top, then the Loop icon in the corner.
- Open the Files tab, tap “Browse items from the Files app”, and pick your ringtone.
- Drag it to the start of the track, then tap the arrow at the top and choose My Songs.
- Press and hold the project, then Share → Ringtone → Export.
- Tap “Use sound as…” and choose Standard Ringtone.
Step 3: Set it on Android
- Download the ringtone as MP3.
- Open Settings → Sound & vibration → Phone ringtone.
- Tap “+” or “Add from device”, then pick the file from Downloads.
Menu names vary a little by brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei…), but the option is always in the sound settings.
Tips for a better ringtone
- Start at the most recognisable part of the song, not at its very beginning.
- Avoid silent seconds at the start so you hear it as soon as the call arrives.
- 15–25 seconds is usually plenty — calls rarely ring longer.
- From a video? Make sure the video has clear sound; the tool keeps only the audio.
Common problems and fixes
- “Use as Ringtone” doesn’t appear on my iPhone.
- Make sure you are on iOS 26 or later, the clip is under 30 seconds and the file is saved on the device. On older iOS, use the GarageBand method.
- The ringtone doesn’t show up on Android.
- Move the file to the “Ringtones” folder in your phone storage, then reopen the sound settings.
- It says the file has no audio.
- Some videos have no sound track or use a rare format. Try another file, or convert it first with Video to MP3.
- The ringtone is quiet.
- Pick a louder section of the song; the tool doesn’t change the volume.
